Not that abuse is amusing. It is not amusing at all... but it is kind of ironic after spending sooo much money on a school and making such a big deal of it. Handpicking all 152 girls who have straight A's from underpriviledged backgrounds but to fail in handpicking the staff. Oprah could have built a much less lavish school, and built a few more schools to educate all children, because they all deserve an education, not just girls with straight A's. If a kid gets a B or C, does it mean that they don't deserve an education?

(CNN) -- A former employee at Oprah Winfrey's school for girls in South Africa has been arrested as part of an abuse probe, police said Friday.

Lungelo Dlamini, police superintendent in Johannesburg, said the suspect -- an ex-school matron whose name was not given -- is accused of physical abuse against girls at the school, including soliciting them for indecent acts.

The suspect will appear Monday at Sebokeng Magistrate Court, a court for family violence, child protection and sexual offenses, Dlamini said.

At this time, no other employees are being investigated, he said.

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls opened in January. Winfrey personally selected the school's 152 pupils, all of them straight-A students from underprivileged backgrounds.

The students get free tuition, uniforms, accommodations and meals at the school in Henley-on-Klip, near Johannesburg.

In a statement issued last month, the academy's CEO, John Samuel, said that an internal inquiry had been launched based on an allegation of misconduct involving a dormitory parent. Watch what's going on at Winfrey's school »

According to an article in The Cape Argus, a Cape Town, South Africa, newspaper, the dorm parent allegedly grabbed a pupil by the throat and threw her against a wall, the girl said. Girls at the school also alleged the matron swore and screamed at the girls and assaulted them, the newspaper reported Saturday.

The newspaper said one of the pupils ran away from the school, blaming the alleged abuse.

The criminal probe was opened after a team of three American experts hired by Winfrey gave police the results of their initial investigation, police said.

"We came to the conclusion that there were criminal elements, and then we opened the case for investigation," Dlamini said this week.

Dlamini said that the team of U.S. experts included Robert Farley, a retired Cook County, Illinois, detective. He said two American social workers were also on the team.

On October 17, Winfrey -- who has spoken publicly about the abuse she suffered as a child -- issued a statement saying, "Nothing is more serious or devastating to me than an allegation of misconduct by an adult against any girl at the academy."

Hilary Clinton and the all boys club

So I am not big on politics..plus I can't even vote but it has been interesting to see how this is playing out.
After the Democratic debate, the Clinton camp has accused the other candidates of piling it on because she's a woman, not because she waffled on the issue of Social Security or handing out driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Additionally, her speech at Wellesly also hinted at the gender issue again, "In so many ways, this all-women's college prepared me to compete in the all boys' club of presidential politics". Then the Union president, McEntee (who's endorsing Clinton) comments "6 guys and Hilary Clinton is a fair fight".

Enough with the gender card...so I guess Hilary's raising the gender issue. Does she want America to vote for her because she's a woman or because she's the best candidate? Does she think she's the best candidate because she's a woman? I sure hope not. That's would posssibly the worst line of reasoning I've ever heard.

It is silly to cry foul when others attack. Did she honestly think they were going to ply nice? This is politics afterall...and besides, she is the current front runner. That's what candidates do..they attack the front runner, NOT attack the woman. Besides, why wimp out and play the gender card now when you've constantly harped on the fact that you're tough? When Elizabeth Dole ran for president years ago... the other candidates also attacked her policies..but not as vigorously. That's not cause they were nice to her because she was a woman, it was because she wasn't a strong candidate, she was NOT the front runner. If you can't stand up to a bunch of people attacking your waffling and policies, how do you expect to lead America?

I think choosing a President is about choosing the best candidate to lead your country out of the current mess, and not be used as an opportunity to break barriers, be it racial or gender. I think all of them should be viewed as equal, and be judged by what they can bring to the table in terms of character, accumen,plans and policies. I don't see Obama beating his chest accusing his rivals of attacking his policies because he is African American. Stating that you are part of a group is very different from stating that others are picking on you because you are part of that group. If Obama or Clinton is elected President, and happen to break barriers along the way, great! However this is not a race to break barriers. Otherwise, a woman of mixed heritage: African American, Hispanic, and Native American, who is homosexual should be elected. Hey, why not get the freak show to run for office?

Additionally, I think people are entirely confusing the issue of illegal immigrants with legal immigrants. Besides, illegal immigrants make legal immigrants look like fools. Especially when I've gone through the crazy visa process and the hoops and paperwork I jump through to maintain legal status here, or friends from India who line up for hours and hours for a chance to apply for a visa to study in the US. Why did I go through hellfire when they plan to pat everyone here who picks strawberries covertly on the back?
